I used Micah Salb in Bethesda to prepare a will, power of attorney and advance directive (aka living will). I thought he did a good job.

We asked around for recommendations and it turned out that one of the lawyers recommended by our financial planner was the same guy who did my Dad's will, so we went with him. Ed Marin with Meyers, Rodbell & Rosembaum in Gaithersburg.

I would look for a trusts and estates law firm or lawyer, not family law. Family law is more focused on divorce and other domestic relations issues. If you are in Maryland or DC, I recommend Furey, Doolan and Abell in Chevy Chase. Just call their main number, and explain what you are looking for. I would also ask to meet with an associate, not a partner, if costs are a concern.

Look for someone who does family law.

Do I just google search for my area or is there any association of lawyers that make wills? And what makes a good will attorney? We are not super rich, but want to make sure everything is in paper, including custody of our children if both of us kick the bucket.
