Silver Spring - Rosemary Hills, Indian Spring, Woodside Forest

I think you will have an easier time trying to find a home to rent for $2K then buy for $500K.

That's actually a cute little house on quite a nice lot.

+1 for Rockville, College Gardens ES or Beall ES. You could rent for that amount or possibly find a SFH under $500k.

there are on-line calculators to help you weigh the costs of rent versus buy

Some things to consider:
how long do you plan on living there for?
how much money do you have for maintenance?
How much money do you have to put down?
Can you rent for that price in a good school district? I find that renting a SFH is not cheap.

My aunt lives in Flower Valley. Lovely neighborhood! If I could live in MD, I'd definitely look around there.

No houses right now in W Springfield or Burke. There is an empty void with a ring of houses around it.

Lots of very nice affordable houses that feed into Newington ES. If you are renting or don't have to worry about high schools, that might be an area to consider.

I take that back.

There are still a handful of small starter homes available in the Rolling Forest neighborhood right behind Hunt Valley.

HV is an amazing school, and that neighborhood is very family friendly. It is worth a second glance even though the houses are smaller/older.

Close in on that budget is NOT easy, especially in VA. My neighborhood fits this description, but it is pretty far out in Fairfax County. I have neighbors that work downtown that say it takes about an hour to get downtown, give or take.

Any suggestions??????? Or where we can buy for $500k or less and be relatively close in? Good school pyramid is our priority.
