Painting the cabinets white would really brighten up the space and help incorporate the white appliances. White kitchens are timeless thus great for resale too. (I am a home stager and know green or blue cabs, which are very taste specific, will make resale hard, if you care are about that issue). The wall color should then be a warm neutral that ties in the creamy counters. Read Maria Killam's color blog for white kichen pics and advice.

Yes, but in those pictures, there were stainless steel appliances. That makes a HUGE difference. Of course the gray looks good.

That's old corian - my mom has it. I'd go and paint it a solid blue or green (I prefer blue) - that wash effect is terrible. Do a light sanding, primer and then paint with a semi or high gloss finish. I'd keep the countertop. Paint the backsplash a tan color or put up some cheap tile if you can DIY. White appliances are fine. Oh, change the hardware on the doors.

Do you live in a building with the initials TV? That looks so much like my "before" picture in that building. The white appliances will be fine if you replace the hardware and pick a light color for the cabinets. Then pick a complimentary darker shade for the walls. If you're in Virginia go to Potomac Paint in Arlington (the Benjamin Moore store) and talk to the lady there. She's excellent at listening to what you want (like the commercial with the lady saying "I want a purple that's not too purrrrrple but more of a purple") and giving great suggestions.

That's not a bad idea. I was going to post the same thing about hardware. That should be priority #1 and might even make the rest tolerable until you're ready to fully redo. I was expecting worse.

I'm with PP--first change the hardware. That style is really dated and dragging everything down. Try a nickel plated knob and then see if that helps. I also like the dark wood with the counter. It's the white appliances that don't work.

If you really want to paint, I'd go with a warm coffee color. Or just save up your pennies for new appliances.

I don't entirely hate the dark cabinets, though they really need new hardware. The white appliances don't look great with the countertops, IMHO, but I'm not sure what paint colors would help that.

If you like to come up with paint color ideas, would you like to give me some ideas for this horrible kitchen I just bought? Really it needs to be gutted and completely redone. But since I just spent all my cash buying it.... I'm probably going to have to live with painting the cabinets for now.

I have creamy spottled yellow/white countertops with specks of brown and grey.
Thinking sage green, sea blue or a taupe for the cabinets.
