Do organizations that train service dogs use rescues? Sometimes, but they reject 20 for every one they use. Most of them use purpose bred dogs which are raised according to strict protocol with careful socialization. Maybe, just maybe, there is a reason.

I am sure that they do suffer. But you know, even if I never bought a purebred pup, there would still be idiots breeding various doodles and mixes. There are your puppy mills. There is a vast difference between the upbringing given to a performance pup and a backyard or puppy mill pup. They are indeed damaged goods: the window for appropriate socialization in a puppy is very short. I have no interest in rescuing someone else's failures. There is a reason rescues have a one bite rule and quite often put down animals: the average owner wants lassie and can't even cope with normal dog issues or teach their kids to respect the dog.

Animals are no more "damaged goods" than are humans.

The animals at the homeless shelters deserve to find a loving + forever home just as your pure bred animals.

You have no heart and are part of the reason that healthy and loveable animals perish in our country every day!! It is a huge injustice and we as humans are the only voice and advocate these poor animals have.

It's not their fault they were not born w/the ability to talk.

Just because they cannot communicate via language does not mean they do not feel fear and pain when they die.

Believe me, when the vets at these shelters take them out of their cages, leash them up & bring them into the room to euthanize them, they have a unique instinct that something is going to happen.
The fear in their eyes is enough to break one's heart.

And I don't want your random abused crap animal from the shelter that was neglected half its life and abused the other: I want my performance bred border collie pup that has been handled and taught from the day it was whelped. By intentionally letting animals reproduce offspring when the country is over populated w/orphaned animals is just plain stupid.

Sorry to sound so harsh, but I cannot wrap my mind around creating more lives when so many are being destroyed in the literal sense at our animal shelters.

Breeders are just selfish and uncaring.
They only do it for the money. Nothing else.

When some of their animals are sick, they just let them die since the animals have no monetary value.

Bullshit. There are responsible breeders who do good things with their own breed. Puppy mills, idiots who buy from backyard, indiscriminate breeders, and people who buy from pet stores are the problem. The people who don't control the reproduction of their animals also contribute.

If people would start adopting vs. buying their animals, no demand would exist and breeders wouldn't make a dime. More animals at the pound would find forever loving homes and less animals would be put down.

Fixing animals so they cannot reproduce is important to stop overpopulation and excessive euthanizing, however one cannot disregard the role breeders play in this situation either.

OP, I'm glad you posted...I never knew how cool Siberians were! We're thinking of getting a kitty now that DD is old enough...good to know.

While I agree that spaying/neutering pets is one of the best solutions to prevent animals from being euthanized unnecessarily, one must also blame those that buy animals from breeders and pet shops.

Don't breed/buy while animal shelters die!!!

If EVERYONE stayed away from breeders, the demand would go down and breeders could not make a profit. They would only be able to GIVE their animals away.

FYI haters---my Siberian is from a rescue. And yes is hypo allergenic which is why we can have a cat because everyone is allergic but not to our Siberian! I have rescued cats all my life and this is by far the coolest cat.

A plus + to having a Siberian cat I have heard is that many people w/cat allergies can keep Siberians.

While I am happy you are enjoying your new kitty, if in the future you decide to get a playmate/sibling for it, why not try an animal shelter instead of a breeder or a pet store?

I am a mommy of two loveable kitties who are just as loveable + cute as yours is.
There are many animals sitting in shelters as we speak and they ALL deserve a loving + forever home.

Sure...they don't have any fancy titles, but trust me, these little guys are just as loveable.

If people will stop buying from breeders, then less healthy kitties will lose their lives unnecessarily.

I honestly don't "get" purebred cats. None of my cats have ever been afraid of anything, and they've all been smart and playful. Why would you feel this is special?

I have a Siberian cat and feel like he is the best breed ever. So smart and playful. Everyone who meets him feels like he is 'part dog'. Not afraid of anything (including vacuum cleaner, which I have to move him out of the way or else he'd get sucked up). Want to know anyone has one to share cute Siberian stories.
