We are at YY and I also had not heard anything about this on the vote was in. It's a bit of fun, that's all but I was certainly reading all the reader picks this morning!

Rankings like these are a mere marketing ploy to get people talking about said article and magazine...I am sure they select hundreds or organizations every year and Best of A or B or C.

In any case, YY is a great school, as shown by many more meaningful indicators than this one...

YY sent around an email urging parents to vote for YY as the "best elementary in DC." And they voted. My child's private school did not send around this email, so it didn't occur to us to vote. But, my dog groomer DID pester me with that email, so I clicked on it and they got a vote.

Totally untrue. We've been at Yu Ying since it opened, and this is the first I've ever heard of the poll, for this or any other year.

What I found interesting is that all 3 named schools (YY + runners-up Brent & Inspired Teaching) are very popular on the Hill. Maybe somebody on MoTH send around a message?

My condo building last year was best building. Same deal, the sent the email around and asked to forward it to friends. Is it the best? Who knows?

I'm happy for YY. Of course it's just a reader poll in which people can stuff the box. But there's no doubt that YY is among DC's best public schools, whether it's your cup of tea or not.

City Paper, to really get the wonderful vibe of DCUM, should do a "most hated-on elementary school" for its "Best Of" edition.
