From what I have been told, if you have been in a TAG magnet school for elementary you are automatically eligible in the TAG middle school (no lottery).

Is the TAG middle school also by lottery if you have been in the all-TAG school for elementary?

I don't know, 200 on the waitlist for 2nd at Glenarden Woods doesn't seem encouraging to me.

That sucks. I just glanced at our TAG magnet school and there were less than 45 applicants for the 2nd grade. Not sure how many kids per grade in the TAG program though. Greenbelt Middle School also didn't look terrible.

Glen Arden Woods and Heather Hills now are TAG only schools. I *think* they have 4 TAG classes at each grade.

the other schools I believe have just 1 TAG class per grade. At least Capitol Heights and Highland Park do.

The district added a few more TAG spaces last year when they changed Glenarden Woods and Heather Hills to be all-TAG schools, but they also need to create a tiered system of TAG identification so students who are best served in TAG center schools can have placement there, and those whose needs can be met with TRC (TAG in the regular classroom) can have their services at their base school. The system now makes no sense.

We're giving our zoned school a chance. We just went to the open house and I was pleased with what I saw.
My friend did get into the French Immersion program but she is considering passing and putting her daughter into our local school.

Not one person got good news? So what alternatives are people pursuing? Private school or going to give the zoned school a chance?

Has anyone received placement letters yet?

Do consider, it isn't a waitlist per se, it is a list. 2nd grade at Glen Arden Woods is 4 classes isn't it? So, 100 spaces, assuming 25 in each class?

Still you are right, #200 isn't going to be called. But that's why they have a lottery.

I can't easily search my email from my phone. Can anyone tell me the wording in the From: or Subject: line in the confirmation email? Thanks so much

And for the 5th time we have not gotten a placement (2 PK attempts for older DC, 2 PK and 1 Kinder attempt for younger DC). 245th on the waiting list for Goddard French Immersion. Best ever result was 20th on the list for Montessori and never got offered a seat. Seriously PG County, if the specialty programs are so popular that your waitlists go into the 300s, add more seats. The specialty schools perform well, wouldn't it make sense to put more kids in them when there is great demand and great results?

So frustrated right now.

You can look up your place in the PG Magnet lottery here if you have the application number that was in the confirmation email. We didn't get in (number 200) but good luck to the rest of you.
