Definitely prosecco. Much better, IMO, than Freixenet. Go to epicurious or Martha Stewart for prosecco cocktail ideas - there are lots. We do one with red vermouth and blackberries that is delicious and easy - you make the vermouth mixture in advance and just add a few tablespoons to each glass. You can also do Lillet cocktails with prosecco - although that may be a little strong for daytime. Unless you are doing a brunch menu I'd actually skip the OJ - do something a little more sophisticated.
Mumm's Cuvee & Brut Prestige are very nice to drink straight, or in cocktails. They are a little more expensive, say around $20 or so.
For a Prosecco, Santi Nello is very good and sells for about $15.
Agree with Cava or Prosecco for mixing with juices. There are many of them in the $10 price range. (Last time I checked Freixenet, the standard crowd cava, was about $8. And very good.)
If you want something to drink straight and don't mind spending a little more, Gruet makes excellent sparkling wines at about $18. Sometimes you see them on sale for $16 or so.
Yeah, either cava of prosecco. Plenty of decent options at Costco. I'd just go ahead and get a case but you could end up with a lot left over. That's not such a bad thing IMHO!
Strawberries are a classic garnish for sparkling wine.
Prosecco. It's Italian sparkling wine and I prefer the dry for drinking on its own. It also makes great bellinis and mimosas. Strawberries are also good with some sparkling wines.
Having a bridal shower brunch soon and we want to do sparkling wine with various juices, etc. What kind of sparkling wine do you recommend that is reasonably priced, but still tastes decent if anyone wants to drink it plain? What "add ins" are good? Obviously, we'll do fresh orange juice and peach (if I can find some). I was also thinking maybe rasberries and pomegranate seseds. Any other ideas for what goes well with sparkling wine? How much would you buy? We have about 25 guests, but a mix of the bride's friends (who will probably drink a lot) and the bride's mother's friends (some who might drink a few glasses, but most will probably only have a glass or two or none at all).
