The current President of Colby College went to Colorado College. Under his tenure Colby has become the #18 LAC. CC, by the way, is #28. So even if these kids love to play hard they certainly must work hard as well. (I used to rankings to indicate difficulty involved in gaining admission).

The kids I know who are at CC love it. I'd describe these kids as very bright, but not the hardest workers in HS, so their transcripts didn't reflect ability (recommendation-speak ) -- translation: smart, mellow partiers who love to ski -- not elbows-out strivers.

I think it would be much more popular if it was in Boulder than CC.

Unique and pretty cool school let down by its location.

You are thinking of University of Colorado at Boulder perhaps (aka Boulder or CU) perhaps. If that's what you're thinking I agree with you. Colorado College isn't known for stoners any more than any other LAC to my knowledge. Excellent academics and reputation. Gaining popularity with the private school crowd in the DC area.

As the mother of a junior who is looking at schools I've lost track of how many have a reputation for stoners and how many have a reputation for heavy drinking. You just have to believe something is going on at all these schools and hope your DC has judgment.

Unique approach -- students take one class, all day long, for a period of weeks (can't remember how many) before moving on to the next course. This allows them to immerse themselves in each subject but also prevents them from switching back and forth in their work if they dislike a subject. So its not for everyone. Its in a conservative area but the student body is liberal.

Tell me about Colorado College. There seem to be a fair number of placements there every year from my DS's high school, all great kids. Looking at it for next year.
