Report them. It's fraud to live in one county and pay taxes there but send your kids somewhere else.

This happens everywhere there are great schools. My parents next door neighbor wrote a financial book that was on Oprah, is a financial planner, had the big city mayor over her house regularly (prior to his jailtime) and was having her sister's kids from the other side of the tracks come to her house every morning to walk to school. It was horrible to sit back and do nothing but eventually karma got her. She didn't pay her taxes, house went into foreclosure, got a divorce, is now renting somewhere after losing everything since lying on school forms wasn't the only place she was lying. My mother took days off her life envious of that woman before her true colors showed- please don't let this eat at you.

We live in a great neighborhood with crappy schools which we don't need for another year. Our solution isn't to break the rules, it's to move to a different city over 150 miles away that we can afford to live in with great schools.

How do you know they didn't get a legitimate transfer to the school due to childcare needs? Many kids do.

It always amazes me when people who have so much get bothered by people who have less.

OP didn't say the family was necessarily hard up. Many people think they're hard up compared to others. It's all relative. But yeah, it would bother me too.

Bitch!! Mind your fucking business. You have no idea what that family/child is going through. Growing up my mom lied about our address to get me into elementary school. You know why? Because we were homeless but needed to put down a physical address on the paperwork. We would be the first car in the drop off line each morning and all of our shit was packed into the back seat and Im sure people knew but no one snitched. I got an excellent education because my mom, a single parent, did what she had to do. Just be glad that you can afford a home even though you feel you are sacrificing. Some people out there have it rough and dont need your busy body ass making things worse!

These people are zoned for good schools--but not the "choice one' they want. It is not a hard up situation like a pp mentioned. The parents make good $.

I know a few families like that in Arlington and it pisses the shit out of me. They wanted a bigger house, but couldn't afford it in the proper zone so they are lying. We now have school inspectors and they are really cracking down hard so I don't doubt they'll get caught whether I report it or not.

Life is not fair. We are not equal. Mind your damn business unless someone is molesting your child, stealing your money, or screwing your husband.

I dunno op - For my family, it doesn't matter how much we "comprised" (as you put), we could NEVER afford to live in the Langley HS cluster - considered the best high school in this area (well, besides TJ of course).

The schools in my neighborhood are not as good as Langley or McLean, or whatever, but in the big scheme of things, they are good schools. However, if I lived in some place were the schools were actually terrible or very subpar and I could not afford to live anywhere else, not mattering how much I "compromised," I would do whatever I could to provide my child with a better education, so in the future, his "compromise" would be enough to afford HIS/HER kids a good education. That includes gaming the system and breaking the law, if there is one.

You know, be grateful for what you have. Don't worry about others.

It's been bothering me more than I thought. I don't know this kid or family. It's a middle school in MoCo and this friend is fairly new to it. DC said family lives in a farther out suburb and is driven in. It's bothering me because my family (and many others here) recently moved and compromised on our house to be in good cluster. Also, I'm getting tired of people who "work the system." If I report, will it make any difference? The family can use whatever docs they had to initially fake their residence. Also, why hurt the kid for choices his caregiver is making. Will the school system even care? I wonder how often this happens.
