You are me as well. After my first son, I went to Alison Lukes (www.alisonlukes.com) and she changed my life. She's lovely and really knows what she's doing--went through my closet, put together about 10 awesome outfits I didn't know I had (I can't put anything together ever), made me a list, and then we went shopping and she got me started on it--and gave me so much confidence in the process. Life changer.

I think there are a lot of SAHMs who think that liking to shop translates into being able to do it for others, so check anyone out diligently (she was one who had a legit resume, which is why I chose her).

Leslie Hoban at Nordstrom Tysons changed my life! Six years into a professional job, everything was worn out. I basically started from scratch, a couple suits, blouses, cool jeans, sweater sets, pocketbook, wallet, etc. I did not bring in any of my current clothes (didn't have a lot) but I think she would work with extending looks if you wanted to.

I love Melissa at lockstitch style. You can google her. Super sweet with a very discerning eye.

I've had good luck with the random person they matched me with at Nordstroms. This was after doing tog and porter and cake style (where I found some things i liked but many others didn't work).

PP - thanks for the advice. I think I'll try out Nordstrom. The problem with blogs is that I don't even know what's fashionable. Seriously. There are things that I am good at and fashion and style are NOT one of them. I really do need some hand holding - someone to help me figure out what versatile pieces are, how I can mix and match, etc.

There are a ton of style blogs out there that can help you get a sense of how to wear things. For your budget, I would go to Nordstrom and have someone in tbd suggest a good pair of jeans, tops, dresses, etc. Really, you shouldn't even need to make an appointment, that is what their sales staff is trained to do. My advice is to buy versatile pieces. Like a James Perse button down that could be worn with a skirt and pump to the office, nice dark denims and a statement necklace to date night, a skirt to the summer BBQ, etc. Don't buy pieces that you would only wear to one place...

After being pregnant and/or BF for the past 4 years, I need a serious wardrobe overhaul. And I hate (and have always hated) shopping. I'm pretty sure I could narrow down my closet and drawers to a total of 20 (maybe less) items. And I'm sure there are a few additional items that I just don't know how to wear correctly. With spring just around the corner, I don't know that I have anything to wear to work.

So, I'm looking for recommendations for someone who can help me make outfits out of the few items that may be worth keeping and then help me shop for new items to wear throughout the year to work (downtown law firm), date nights, summer BBQs, one really fancy wedding, and the play ground.

I've searched the forum, but the recommendations are dated (2009-2011). I've also seen a few recommendations for Cakestyle and Tog + Porter, but think that I need the hand holding to get my closet in shape first.

Please pass along any recommendations you may have. For what it's worth, I'm expected to spend at least $1500 for the initial overhaul.
