Subject: Vacuum for wood floors & pet hair?
OP here. Thanks for the feedback. Do these all work on wood floors? We only have hardwood. Our current vac was marketed for pet hair but sucks on the hardwood.

My Miele just died. It was 20 yrs old and awesome. Super powerful suction. They have super long warranties too.

Yep. Our dog's hair is no match for that thing!

Shark Navigator. $150 and works like gangbusters. No need to spend $600-$1200 on a freaking vacuum.

Dyson. The yellow one. With a canister and no ball.
Don't forget the bbb coupon.
I like this one, too - but remember to keep cutting the hair and crap out of the roller. I don't have pets, but do have a dust problem, and it works well for that.

There are vacuums specifically marketed for pet hair. Dyson makes one. Do you have 500? Miele or Simplicity make powerful suction vacs in that price range. I would get the Miele at BB&B with 20% off coupon--it's a Miele Titan. Make sure you get one with HEPA filter. There is tons of info on the web about this.

We got the purple Dyson canister. It works very well.

Hoover Anniversary edition...just over $200. Works great on carpet and wood floors, especially when you use the hose and attachment around the baseboard. It's loud and heavy though.

Not everyone has $1200 for a vacuum.

I use a Swiffer for this. The vacuum part isn't super powerful, but it gets a lot of the hair & dust, and the rest gets trapped on the cloth.

I need a vacuum that will work well to pick up pet hair off of my wood floors. Does anyone have any recommendations? Our current vacuum seems to just blow it around but doesn't actually suck it up.
