22:23 back again a week after surgery. I walk around in awe of how well I can see. I agree with the PPs that this is not the thing to find a deal on. So far, the only side effects are the nighttime halo effect which is pretty typical according to the doctor and others who have had LASIK. They say it fades over the next few months. Also, my eyes get tired by the end of the day. I would recommend my surgeon but I live outside the DC area.

DH had it done abut 18 mos ago by Dr Witten and has had no problems. There was some halo effect in the beginning but it slowly fades away.

I was -4; but I think key issue is medical condition of your eye and corneal thickness. Go to someone who will spend time to do the screening carefully. I was told that sloppy screening is main reason people get less than satisfactory results. So inisit the surgeon do the screening himself! any surgeon who tries to brush off the screening onto some optometrist and claims that this is "standard of care" is being less than truthful. What it really means is that they neither care nor have the patience to do the screening themself. But, having not done the screening themeseves, they are relying wholly on someone else to tell them what type of laser to use and how much power the laser should have during the procedure. usually these big huge lasik factories try to do this to people. Just be careful and choose a place you trust,

Would those who've this done mind sharing what your Rx was before surgery? I'm quite near-sighted (-10, -9), and in the past have been told I might be a candidate for the procedure. I'm still afraid to go ahead with it. Anyway, would love to read what others had for their vision. Thanks.

My vote is for Alisa Kim. Could not be happier with how things went. Simply the best

22:23 back again. I had mine done this morning and it was easy and painless. Just some pressure. My vision is so very clear and almost perfect just 6 hrs after surgery. My eyes are kind of sticky and goopy from all of the drops they used. They dried on my lashes. I keep touching my face b/c I am just so shocked I can see this clearly w/o glasses.

Went to Dr Whitten about 7 years ago, and could not be happier with results. I heard he just moved out of Rockville down to somewhere in Southern MD though.

I agree with what 23:22 said - this is NOT a surgery to cheap out on. DH went to Dr Whitten too, and he had some relatively minor complications, that I suspect in the hands of a less experienced surgeon could have been VERY bad.

There is a small corps of brilliant lasik surgeons in DC. Here is what I hear--0

Roy Rubinfeld in Chevy Chase--high volume, good doc, gets featured in local news lots

Alisa Kim in Rockville--former Johns Hopkins medical professor , star surgeon, brilliant doctor, concierge practice

Dr Witten--did surgery for Tiger Woods but is getting older in age; slowing down in terms of practice but I bet he is still good

One word of caution. Dont go to the lasik factories in town. They are scary. Also dont trust any doc who says he is going to refer you to an optometrist do the screening. The main reason people get unsatisfactory results from their lasik procedures is that the screening was not done properly

Anyone here got lasik done? If so, how was your experience?

Can anyone recommend a good lasik docto also?
