PP: what are you talking about? you must be thinking of a different school---this is baaaad information!

The school will offer a bus, but you have to go stand outside the school on a certain day, and if you aren't one of the first 10 people in line, you won't get a ticket for the bus.

No official school buses. They are all parent run. Call the school and get the contact information for the parents running it.

Currently, there is a Dupont/Columbia Heights bus and a Capitol Hill bus (stops in NE and SE).

There was an attempt to have a bus go from upper CT avenue but they couldn't quite get enough parents. They were pretty close though so even 1 or 2 new families might make it work. If you call the school as PP suggested they should be able to point you towards the right people to talk to.

I live in Brookland and I made the preK commute daily to Eaton before my DC got into YY, so the cross town drive is possible
That being said, the OP wanted to know about whether there is currently a parent-organized bus for her area, not what would make someone else "go nuts".

YY parent whose kid did not join Stoddert soccer b/c it meets at Stoddert (most of the time). Honestly, if I had to make that kind of drive everyday for preK, I'll go nuts.

Go with Janney or move closer to YY.

Honestly, if you applied and forgot out about it, (and I'm not even sure which school you forgot about applying to from this post), you should really go to the school you already were very interested in. Those are both fantastic schools, and it is definitely commendable that you're trying to make your decision so you can tell the other school you're not coming.

But if one of those schools is that much of an afterthought that you forgot you applied, you should go to whichever you actually were interested in. You'll find away to make it work, whichever it is. Me, I WISH I lived IB for Janney... but my IB school sucks. And as someone on the waitlist of several schools, if I'm going to lose the lottery anyway, I hope it's to parents who were actually really excited/charged up about the slot they accepted. You are free to choose based on whatever criteria you choose, but since this is a public message board and all... that's my .02cents.

There is a group of 3 or 4 families in Tenleytown (I think all in bounds for Janney) that have kids at YY and have carpooled. They have reached out to parent sponsored van bus companies in the past, but never had enough kids to make a van bus work. Instead, carpools.

You should ask the school for names of parents in the neighborhood. I know of one family with a current K & 2nd grader that has really tried to organize this.

There is probably an almost critical mass to make a parent run van work, one of the problems is that every family has a different after care preference (e.g., stay at school for aftercare, bus runs at 6 pm, provide aftercare at home, bus runs at 3:30 pm, etc.)

I know there is a Capitol Hill/Columbia Heights (? some other neighborhood) parent shuttle, but I am not sure if there is anything else official. I know that many parents carpool to Yu Ying.

Call the school and ask to speak to the PA about this. Parents do organize buses from some parts of NW.

H8 from Mt. Pleasant is the only bus line going past YY. In the time it took you to write your email, you could have gone to WMATA's site and figured that out yourself.

I don't know about a bus, but it's really nice when a child gets to go to school with neighborhood kids. Impromptu play dates, walking to school with friends, and all those community ties make an in-boundary option very nice. Plus, Janney is awesome! (and I'm not trying to get you out of Yu Ying - we're going somewhere else in our neighborhood).

Just something to think about.

I assume you are speaking about a Metro Bus. Go to the website, put both addresses in and see what the route would be on metrobus alone.

We're currently debating between our pre-K in-boundary spot at Janney and a charter spot at Yu Ying (yes, we understand we are very lucky to have those two choices). We understand the many factors involved, but my question here is whether or not there is a bus that runs anywhere from the AU park/Chevy Chase/upper NW area to Yu Ying? If not, does anyone know if there is a possibility of one in the future? This will really help with our decision. Thanks!
