I've done it but not very well--the worst part is sitting there trying to psych yourself up to PULL the strips off when you know it's going to hurt like a you know what. That alone makes it worth paying someone else to just get it over with.

I totally get the difficulty of finding time to get to an appointment during business hours. However, DIY will take you a long time in the bathroom until you get the hang of it. I would do a quick one at a nail place you trust on the way home. They usually don't require appointments and have better hours than real salons and you can be in and out.

Takes me about three minutes to do at home, down from about six minutes the first time I did it. The Parissa kit has strips of plastic with wax on them; you just warm between your hands, stick, and pull. Dab a little the blue oil on to remove any leftover wax. Seriously, so easy.

I use the Nair wax strips. They work pretty well. It doesn't come out as neat as a professional job, but it's so much faster and cheaper. I use a blowdryer to heat up the wax first.

I do it myself- have the Bliss kit from Ulta and like it very much. It's a bit messy until you get the hang of it, and you have to be very careful in the area right where your leg meets crotch (bruises really easily)- I read the directions twice and followed exactly and had no problems. I also have used the cheapo Sally Hansen prewaxed strips and those are fine in a pinch (no pun intended), especially for strays and little areas.

Not worth it. I used to have my bikini area done except i was super sensative. It felt like my skin was being ripped everytime. The best thing to do is have it proffesionally done if you need to. If you can afford it try lazer. i tried lazer and its great! you go for about 6 treatments and it doesnt hurt anywhere close to waxing- and it only takes 5mins max! You wont have hair grow back for at leat 10 years! it is amazing. If lazer is to expensive for you try hair removal creams (equally as effective and much less painfull) or take and asprin before you wax.

I'm not overly sensitive to pain (I had two unmediated home births for example), but I couldn't pull the wax off. It hurt so much and I obviously didn't have the technique right. I ended up having to help my husband get it all off me. Disaster.

In my experience, some things are better left to professionals.

Always do it at home -- so easy and so much cheaper!!

Same. Great if you're just looking for keeping neat for bathing suit wear--obviously not for anything more exotic.

Sketchy manicure places will sometimes double-dip, which can lead to infection, so be careful.

I'm pretty good with home care maintenance and I ended up with bruising type marks. I'd just have it done right. Nothing compares to the real deal.

What's your motivation to do it yourself? Money, embarrassment, or finding the time?

Frankly, I'd get it done professionally no matter what. If it's money, just go to a sketchy manicure place. As sketchy as they are, it's still better than a home job.
