I think it's a very thoughtful thing to do. Even if it didn't work out for you with them, like you said, you spent several years interacting with them and feel grateful for their support. I'm sure they'd appreciate a nice note, or something edible, or flowers. It's not obligatory by any means but it would be lovely.

OP Here, thanks for all the input. I think after I make it out of the first trimester, I'll send something plus personal notes. I mean I know it's a service that I paid them for, but I guess I just feel closer to them than like if it was my plummer or something.

I would bring in flowers and some handwritten notes (one for your doctor, your nurse, and the admin staff). I've grown to appreciate the lab techs who take my blood at my practice so I'll bring them a note and a treat if I get a BFP. Congratulations!

We brought an editable fruit/chocolate arrangement to our out of town clinic. Admittedly, it was pre-pregnancy and to butter up the cranky nurse who I dealt with 99% of the time. But it always helps to have them rooting for you! She was very excited and of course it was for the rest of the staff too. I am currently preg with a local clinic and will send something also once I get through my 1st trimester. Its completely unnecessary but if you feel they helped you achieve the most important thing in your life, I think its a worthy cause!

Just send them a couple of very nice notes (one to your primary doctor and one to the nursing staff). No gift needed.

i just got pregnant after an IVF cycle and gave my RE and his nurse bottles of champagne -- maybe unnecessary, but i am so full of gratitude that i wanted to do something. i think it's never a bad idea to show gratitude, even if you paid for the work...

Oh I totally agree on the DF music!! I did an IUI a few weeks back and was like do do do, dah dah dah, ahhhhhhhhhh. I even commented to the Dr - isn't that music kind of loud? (in the exam room!). I also got stuck watching animal planet in the waiting room for two hours once too That said, I love the nurses - they are always so nice to me - remember everything about me and I've only ever done IUIs. My RE also remembers most things about me and regularly follows up and asks. I took my OB Georgetown Cupcakes to my discharge appointment after having first baby, but now wish I'd done the same for DF. I am now 5 weeks again thanks to DF, but I probably won't do gifts until after baby is born.

I work in a Dr's office. We get cookies and brownies and such up the wazoo- but it is a welcome treat and always appreciated.

Fresh flowers smell nice, and will give others in the waiting room hope that there are successful outcomes.

While I agree you don't need to send anything, especially since you did yourself this time around, I can understand your desire to give them something. I'm sure over those 3 year the office staff, nurses and doctors have become a second family for you.
My guess is that they are just as happy for you. I would send an edible arrangement or a dessert platter for the office to share. You can send the doctor a separate, personal note if you like.

I think you are very kind to be thinking of them and all the work/support they provided you. Miracles do happen, and you are a good example. Just because you did it in your own doesn't mean the doctors and their staff haven't been trying their hardest as well.

I've been going to my infertility practice for just over 3 years. With this office, I've had 3 failed IVF's, 6 IUI's (with one pregnancy resulted in miscarriage) and countless clomid cycles--all paid out of pocket. Well finally I got pregnant, but got there naturally. If all continues to go well, I will have my last appointment (sonogram) next week with them and then released to OB. Even though I got pregnant naturally on this cycle, I really love all the support I received from the office throughout everything. The nurses were just outstanding.

I am from The South and pride myself on being very gracious. I was wondering, is a "Thank you" gift appropriate in this scenario? Should I send the office or the doctor specifically a gift? Do you wait until you've had the baby to send a gift? Just wondering if anyone else did this or what the general consensus is?
