They are building a $1.8 million dog park with water features in Clarendon and an $80 million acquatic center. Arlington Co. Board is out of control.

conversations like this piss me off. prototyping is expensive. construction and improvments are expensive. we WANT new bus stops; it's to everyone's benefit that there be good public transportation. we WANT them to be attractive; it's to everyone's benefit that infrastructure be attractive. carping about projects over which you know next to nothing is completely useless.

This is a terrible design. The ceiling should be opaque and flat to minimize sun and rain getting into the waiting area.

I don't even want to read more about it. Graft and corruption.

For 1 mil I expect it to be heated and air conditioned.

what a waste. Keep it to a little shelter (not at every stop also) and concrete slab like MoCo has around.

Yeah, I'm sure the 10 inch curbs and other things were a huge cost. It's part of the plan to accommodate street cars. How is it a liberal thing to want to enhance public transport?

Don't be so short-sighted.
I'm willing to bet that a lot of that money isn't exclusively for the structure, but rather, for the new curb and street access, which is expensive and invasive and complex.
There's almost always more than meets the eye when it comes to big infrastructure.

Sounds like a typical liberal government project

It's a prototype, and thus more expensive than the subsequent stops will be.
"In the end, the new stop cost $575,000 for construction and fabrication and $440,000 for construction management and inspections, officials said."

WTF!!! Crazy that anyone would think this was a good idea or price. The only winners are the construction company.
Oh and it doesn't protect the people from wind or rain.
