We love Shenandoah NP. First camped there when our son was 22 mo old. Mathews Arm campground. Not sure when it opens for the season-- May? I would look at a weather forecast more than the date if camping in March or April. Have fun!

Little Bennett is in Clarksburg. There is hiking there and overnight camping. You'd probably need to make reservations. Keep in mind it is still cold at night (just based on "average" temps) for a while.

We had thought about doing some early spring camping this week during spring break....seeing the snow today makes me glad we opted not to do that! Seriously, can't wait until the weather warms ups.

I'm looking for some tips from seasoned campers, I know you are out there....

My kids are now both out of diapers and I would like to take them tent camping for a night within a 2 hour drive of Montgomery County. How early in the season is it reasonable to go?

Can anyone recommend local sites for camping that has somewhat of an actual wilderness feel (aren't overrun with RVs running all night long) but still aren't completely hike in/ rustic. Access to a restroom and picnic table would be great.

Thanks!
