Yes, ASDEC is the place to contact. They are the experts and train teachers all over the country to learn how to help students with dyscalculia and other learning issues. You could get references for tutors from a school like Lab or Siena but you will probably end up being referred back to ASDEC tutoring anyway.

We have a kid with dyscalculia. It is akin to dyslexia but for math. Here are a couple of good references:

I think testing is the only way you'd know for sure. Ours was uncovered in our neuropsych evaluation.

Where do you live? There are other places besides the Lab School. GMU does testing and there are many private practitioners. You can also ask the school to do an evaluation. LDOnline.org and Wrightslaw.com can help you figure out some of your questions.

Contact the Lab school: They are probably the area experts for learning disabilities in the area and they do testing.

Does anyone have a child diagnosed with dyscalculia? I believe it is sort of the math equivalent of dyslexia... At my child's recent parent-teacher conference the teacher suggested they are having some trouble with math and said to keep an eye on it because there might be some learning difficulties in this area.
