It would be easier if you mentioned the state where you live now, as some have reciprocity agreements.

But basically your Jan-May time was as a DC resident, and MD and DC have an agreement in place, so you do NOT need to file in Maryland. You DO need to file in DC, and make it clear that all the MD income was attributed to when you lived in DC. You're a part-year resident for tax purposes.

If you didn't live in Maryland at all, you shouldn't need to file Maryland taxes unless you had MD takes withheld for some reason.

(Other states have weird commuter tax issues but MD does not.)

You only need to file in MD if you had MD tax withheld (to get the money back).

Someone please reply- all you lawyers and smarties out there- I am here ( http://forms.marylandtaxes.com/11_forms/nonResident.pdf ) and it says DC residents need not pay MD taxes as long as your income was only in MD. From Jan- May I lived in DC and worked in MD, then I moved to and began work in an entirely different state. So do I still fall into that category of not having to pay the tax?

Last year-

I worked in MD while living in DC until May. Now I live in a different state. Trying to find out if I need to file for MD. Turbotax is telling me I "may" need to but not really being clear (and no return/taxes due). I'm on the tax website for MD but thought I would get equally good info from you DCUM allstars.

I only made about 15k in MD... so, what must I do?

Could I do an easy freefile online for just MD so I don't have to pay turbotax $37 for MD?
