If you have tweens on the list, I always loved receiving everyday school supplies from other countries. Their paper is lined all weird! Their pens are always double-ended! They actually
use pencil cases!
Finally, I enjoyed buying single pages from old books at the riverside book merchants. Most street markets have at least one book and document vendor, and most of them sell single illustrated pages. I got a set of botanical illustrations for my mom-- they didn't look like much at the time, but she had them matted and framed, and they look now like a much bigger deal than they really were!
