Joint. Most have rights of survivorship for future ease of transferring.

Both, because I use a check register, and my husband does not. And if we shared an account it would way too stressful given how we manage things administratively. We also have both joint and separate credit cards, although we are authorized users on all.

I had this question when we got married too, the best advice I got was ultimately it doesnt matter if its joint or separate - what matters is the TRANSPARENCY and ACCESS that you both have to whatever account. And it has to work for your marriage.

same. i buy DH's xmas and bday gifts, my lunches, get my hair done, fill up my car, etc. with the money from my personal account and DH does the same. I prefer it this way.

OP here and thank you for the comments. My husband and I married before we started our careers so everything is joint for us. My younger sister who is getting married in a month asked for my opinion on the matter. Joint accounts work very well for my husband and I but I know that it can lead to a lot of problems in marriages which is why I thought I should get an idea of what other couples do before giving her advice.

Joint. We weren't young and we weren't poor but after a dozen years, two kids and many doctor bills later, we just have the one account. Some friends recently split up and we joked that we couldn't afford to do that. We're in it for the long run and I can't imagine being paycheck-to-paycheck with anyone else.

Joint. I see no reason to have separate accounts. We have similar thoughts on saving and spending so it is never a problem.
