I have one of the names mentioned more than once in this thread. My parents are working-to-middle class and not the type to do anything aspirational, phony, or pretentious. I should ask my mom why the hell she picked my name. It's a saint's name (as are several others), so maybe that's why.

Agree that Maya, Sydney and Devon don't fit the bill. They sound like soap-opera names to me -- like someone's image of what a wealthy person would be named.

Ha! That is my relative named Thumper. Some girls' given names in that extended family are Elizabeth, Caroline, Laurel and Julia. Nicknames Gabby, (none for Caroline), Lo and Bonnie. Go figure.
