I actually do lock old threads based on the date of the most recent post on the thread.

It can be nice to get updates. Locking the thread would prevent that.

On another forum I read, there is a warning screen that comes up if you try to post on a thread that hasn't had a post in a year.

Sometimes I get dragged into a thread only to realize that it's from three years ago! Reading the old posts are interesting, but I get invested only to realize the OP's issue is long gone.

Any chance of programming dates to turn red on the each forum's page once they're older than three months?
