Because these Feds milk the fuck out of the system. Cause somehow, filing for unemployment because you take every other Friday off seems reasonable to these dimwitted twatwaffles.

Unemployment benefits, as far as I know, are for when you truly are not working. At all. So a furlough as I know it, where you're furloughed one day of every 5 or 10 days, does not qualify you for unemployment because you are still employed. Also, there is about a week's waiting period, so if you are no longer employed as of April 1, you can not collect unemployment until April 7 or thereabouts.

Most agencies, at least within DoD, aren't furloughing for extended periods of time. Instead it will be one furlough day per week over the course of 6mos. As a result, you won't be unemployed for a sufficient period of time to file for unemployment.

First it is dependent in your state. I have heard that DC has a one week waiting period, so if your workplace is in DC and you had 2 weeks of furlough in a row and you engaged in a job search you might qualify. On the other hand, since you have a job waiting for you after the furlough is over you might not (for example, my understanding is that teachers are not eligible for unemployment during the summer even if they are not getting paid).

Anyway that's what I could find out when I spent a few minutes trying to figure it out, but maybe someone else knows more.

If (when) I am furloughed, am I eligible to receive unemployment benefits? Considering I'd finding another job for a day/week is a worthwhile venture?
