Hey now. Just because more than half of the kids at Powell, Bancroft and Marie Reed can't read at grade level doesn't mean a school isn't hot. There are other factors.

Plus maybe not all parents care if their kids can read to learn, you know? There are other things in life.

That is such an obnoxious thing to post with no context. If you're going to be critical of others' choices or make it seem like they are crazy for calling this a "hot" school, at least state your reasons for including these examples in your list of "Not hot in my opinion".

But to answer your question, depending on how you define hot (i.e., hot = more demand for slots than supply of slots, vs. what how you may define it "hot = vast majority white/high SES"), yes, those schools are hot.


I think this is the same person that bashes any EOP school on general principle. In their narrow little world, everyone should move WOP to overcrowded schools with kids in trailers or chase the charters all over the city. I think they own a local gas station and are trying to drum up business.

We got it too, for PK4. It makes sense that they might not want to raise that same level of optimism for K, which is probably a lot harder to estimate right now.

We've got a PS seat at Powell; since it's our first time at the dance, I'm wondering why you think it's so low.

There are a lot of families east of the park looking for decent options--doesn't demand help these school rise higher?

Probably turning down PreK4 spot at Maury. Want Stokes the most, but also Bancroft and other immersion schools.

PP, did you receive the email from MR this week with an invite to their next open house? It said that the first 25 spots on the WL stand a good chance.

I'm interested too. We are #15 at Murch (that is our in-bounds school) and would love to know before the end of the summer if there is a chance my child will actually get a spot.

Thanks to the Horace Mann thread. Thought we should expand it. It would help a lot of folks. Personally interested in Pre-k 4 slots at the "usual suspect" schools - Oyster, Bancroft, Powell etc..., but anybody's situation would help. TIA and good luck with DC's school chapter- Charter Lotteries!!!!
