OP here. I checked the exact words on the website. It is " A copy of the screening file is kept at the local school to be shared with parents or guardians upon request after it hasG been completed. " Although this sentense is under Submitting Screening Files section, it is obvious the AART is going to define complete as a eligibility decision. So I think I'm going to wait until end of April.

If you call the central office they will tell you it means once the file is submitted to the central committee, not when decisions are made. Call and ask, then send an e-mail to the art copying the principal including that info. The AART is not administering the rule appropriately.

I sent an email this morning to ours and she has already replied that she will have it ready for us this week!

OP here.Yes, we are in a nice school and I am extremely fortunate that our teachers take the GBRS with commentary seriously. One question that I guess they ask the kids is what after school activities they participate in - I asked my DC about how the teacher knew about this and DC replied that the teacher asked and also asked (and named about 1/2 the class) the same question to other kids, but not everyone. So, there is some inpout from the kids themselves, they just dont know that that is what they are answering.

GBRS were 13 and 11. I have 2 in grade 2.

Yes, 20 files are a lot for a teacher but it is part of their job. They are professionals whose college education focused on education, so they know what is pertinent in this context. Also, teachers will keep notes on their students on an ongoing basis, so many times it is a matter of copying notes they have taken.

NP. I was very glad that I requested to see the file. Commentary was outstanding, and GBRS was 14. My DD is rather soft spoken and has in the past, been reluctant to speak up, but the commentary described her as a strong leader. This somewhat surprised me - as I suspected that she would be drowned out by more outspoken students. The work samples submitted by the school, however appeared rather weak to me - nothing "outstanding" in my opinion. The AART explained the thinking behind why those samples were chosen, describing what specifics skills she felt those pieces demonstrated - but as I said, I didn't think they were anything particularly strong or "advanced". I parent referred - test scores were too low to be in pool, so we'll see what happens.

Very impressed. The commentary was detailed and insightful. I wasn't convinced the teacher was talking about my child except I recognized some of the examples used in the narrative. ;o) GBRS 13.

NP here. I too was very impressed by the thought and details that went into the commentary. GBRS 12.

I would like to point out that in some schools, second grade teachers are preparing over 20 files. Seriously. In high income/highly educated schools over 70% of the kids are either in the pool or parent referred. Imagine preparing that many folders, while also still teaching, grading, planning, completing report cards, sitting in endless meetings, etc.

To the OP, glad the file showed thought and effort on behalf of the school.

Ours was also nicely done. DC got GBRS 13. How about yours?

Overall, I was quite pleased with the thought that the teachers put into the GBRS with commentary. DC did not get a 16, but scored in what may be considered acceptable for AAP. I was most impressed by the commentary of the teachers. Additionally, it was nice to see what the AART put in the file; she put in a worksheet from one of her classroom visits, as well as what the teacher put in; various writing samples. I don't have a crystal ball, so I don't know the outcome, and won't project what I think. However, I have a better understanding of my child now; interesting what DC is like, according to the teacher's observations.

I think every DCUM parent should email their AART and ask for a copy of the aap screening file. Very insightful.
