In the end, I took off the restriction and hoped for the best.

I set up an evite, and I mistakenly did this SAME thing, quoted above. People, please don't assume that the host is being rude. Email the host and let her know. Thankfully, one parent emailed me, and I was able to correct the mistake. If no one had told me, then no one would have gone to my DD's party because the evite doesn't tell the host that it rejected people's RSVPs.

Wow. Yes, please let us know how it goes. I hope this isn't a class party that your DS will hear about.

I just set up an evite and I noticed that box. It is unchecked and you would have to affirmatively check it and insert a number, so I can't see how it would be done by accident. But I could be wrong.

I was invited to a party last year, and the invitation clearly stated that there were a limited number of spots to the party. When I went to RSVP a few days after initially receiving the evite and well in advance of the party, there was a note that the maximum number of guests had been received (I think the hosts set the note, I don't think it was evite), and so sorry. I couldn't believe it. Thankfully, i never had told my DD about the party, and it wasn't a classmate, so she never knew about it.

OP, will you report back once you've heard from the host? I have never encountered this with evite--I didn't even know it was possible.

You did the right thing to contact the host. It could be an error on her part... or not. She might've just closed the party RSVP option. The best option for her probably would have been to send out personal email reminders to those who hadn't replied yet for a final answer--that's what I do. Sometimes people juts forget. You never know why a reply hasn't been received yet.

Anyway, it's probably good to anticipate RSVP a week or more before an event, even if there's not RSVP date indicated. If you don't know what your weekend plans are, contact the host or note in your reply: "We don't know yet--juggling a few other things that aren't concretely scheduled. Can I let you know by Wed? I hope Johnny can make it!" or whatever. That way the host knows you're considering.

Without "permission" from the host to RSVP late, then I think invitees really need to reply about 7 days out. Stuff needs to be ordered, organized, arranged, and all that.

Hell yes! Sadly it rarely happens these days.

I only know of the setting 'allow guests to invite others'. I just turned that off for my kid's party. I don't know if it effects the number they respond with or not. Just about everyone has responded...hmmm...

It's either by accident or incredibly rude. If you invite people to a party, you need to let everyone invited come. If it's a sibling issue - they the host should deal with that on the side. I would give the mom the benefit of the doubt and contact her. If she say sorry, we're full, I'd mentally cross that family off my list of people to invite to events in the future.

I wonder if she put a limit to discourage people from bringing (uninvited) siblings--but the first several people RSVP, included said siblings in their count--so now it has reached it's limit?

Post 03/12/2013 23:16     Subject: Evite wouldn't let me RSVP--limited number of guests

I seem to be experiencing the flip side of a post from last week--I tried to RSVP for a party for a boy in DS' class this coming Sunday (I wasn't sure of our weekend plans any sooner) and evite said that the number of allowed party guests would be exceeded and told me to contact the host. There was no deadline on the invitation and I don't know the family--I could see that there were about 5 other invitees who hadn't RSVP'd either.

I did send the mom an email letting her know that evite had given me that message and said that I understood if they had to limit the party size. Still, I don't understand why you would invite that many more people than you could accommodate.
