To say we are nervous and cautiously optimistic is a huge understatement. Had a cerclage placed a couple of weeks ago. Need lots of prayers and a miracle really.

This is our first and neither of us have strong preferences on the sex, but a friend of mine said that with and August birthday, it might be easier to have a girl in the school system since boys' parents are faced with decision of holding the boy back or not. Has anyone else thought about this? It had not even crossed my mind.

Why would you hold a boy back but not a girl?
Both my brother and I are both late October babies (10 years apart) and we both initially started K at 4 years old. It worked out for me, but my parents decided to hold my brother back and repeat 2nd grade because he just seemed more immature than the rest of the kids in his class. He also had some behavioral issues and my parents weren't sure if age had to do anything with it. It wasn't traumatic for him to repeat 2nd grade because we moved out of state at the time and he started a new school, so it all worked out. Every child and every situation is different - this is just what happened with us. We both turned out fine
