Thanks, PP. I have a question, so was the guy you mentioned get hired for the position he was volunteering at? Or did he leave? I am a little confused with what you wrote.

Go ahead and volunteer, but don't plan on being hired by the place you volunteer at. I work for a nonprofit and we had a long time volunteer. He eventually was hired for the position he had been volunteering for, but when an opening came, they didn't go for him because they didn't want to have to pay him more than someone new off the streets. If you can volunteer for a couple months somewhere to brush up on your skills and connections, and then move on, that'd be a good starting point.

I am looking to get back to work after SAHM for 3 years. It's hard! So I have this opportunity to volunteer in my field in an area/topic I love. It would be great experience and build on what I had before I stayed home.
So should I do it? I'm thinking yes, but are there any drawbacks I am not thinking of? Any advice for me? What do you think of volunteers in your workplace? BTW, I am an older mom with lots of experience before I left the workplace.
TIA
