My favorite is the Glover-Archbold, which you can pick up from the Capital crescent trail (or Foxhall rd) and take all the way up to Van Ness, for about 3.5 miles of good solid trail.

The Fairfax County Connector Trail is also great. I usually pick it up by Oak marr rec center - you get to field little streams, climb over fallen trees, and pick your way through some swampy areas. It's great.

OP here: thanks for the tips! i live by the Glover Archbold so that is great to know.

You don't need to trail run, just make sure you can run about 6 miles continuiously and do some hill work. Anyone who is reasonably fit, or even unfit can complete this race.

How is the Spartan more serious than the Tough Mudder? I just ran the Super Spartan and was thinking of doing Tough Mudder but I was a little worried about it.

You will kill it.

If you just incorporate the BOSU ball into your work outs then you will have great ankle strength (ALL runners should be doing this anyways!). Even if you get one and do it for 10 minuets before bed, your ankles will thank you.

Anyone know of any trail running groups in DC? Love Rock Creek, but don't feel comfortable heading into the woods on my own. Thanks!
