Never hire the same person to test and remediate! The ethical ones won't do it as its a conflict of interest.

How much did the testing cost? Did she test your entire house, or just your tile flooring?

How much did it cost to remove asbestos tile (if that's what you did)? TIA!

Our house was built in the 1970s. In the basement, we have one layer of vinyl tiles and concrete below that. We want to remove the vinyl tiles and put ceramic tile. Should we test for lead and asbestos or is that not necessary if it is just one layer like that?

There was asbestos in one sample, and we had it removed by Sustainable Occupation Services

How much did the removal process cost? How long did it take? Was it a large area?

David Rymers for testing is another option. (LVI Environmental). We are in MD, not sure if he goes to VA.

He does also do remediation, but we saw the lab results showing us many of our samples were negative, so in this case I don't feel like the conflict was a problem for us.

Jack Geller for testing. Loved him. Sent two friends to him, and now we are all jack cheerleaders.

He doesn't do remediation. Conflict of interest.

We did this in the basement, used David Rymers. Great guy. Was about $1000 for a day's work, testing, air filtering, etc.

I've heard this is the safest/easiest, but we want to open the floor plan and integrate it with hardwoods in other rooms. It needs to be level, right?

Why not just cover the current floor?

We did testing for lead and asbestos, about $450. We had three layers of vinyl, one had asbestos backing. Removal for 180 sq feet was around $900.

We just bought an older home (built in 1970) and want to replace the vinyl linoleum in the kitchen with hardwood. We would have to tear up who knows how many layers of older floors first. Has anyone done this before and if so did you do asbestos abatement or testing? We have young kids so want to do it safely. If you did it how much $ was it?
