REally it all depends on your kids.. I have happily exposed my 7 year olds to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, The B-52's, George Thurogood, and Flogging Molly.

Remember at 5 they have no idea what the words mean thank goodness since Now that I look back I'm amazed at some of the stuff my parents let me listen to. I mean come on, "Hey Mickey"?

I agree on the 80s stuff. I just had my son's birthday party. Rock Lobster was a hit.

Just play your 80s list. Kids catch on fast.
They also really like the Ramones.

Kidz Bop is satanic, but agree with PP's that checking out the titles on the latest version will give you and idea of what to play. Check out the music channels on your cable tv (if you have it). Much Music has a kids channel that plays all Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, etc.

Kidz Bop is a great place to start. This most recent album has all the songs my kids are singing now. The songs are all "clean", but my kids wanted the original versions, not a bunch of kids singing. Still, it'll give you an idea of which songs to download.

Different genre, but my almost 5yo dd LOVES dancing to Rosemary Clooney's Mambo Italiano. It's a lot of fun. Up the same alley is The House of Bamboo by Andy Williams. Enjoy the party!

Get some Glee soundtracks and you'll get a lot of stuff that the kids are currently listening to and a lot of danceable stuff.

Anything by the Fresh Beat Band....
Freeze Dance would be fun at a kids party.

I don't think it has to be current -- pick fun dance music.

My DD would like to dance at her birthday party but I'm way behind the times as far as music goes.

She wants

Call Me Maybe
Dynamite

Could you recommend a few more songs to add to the playlist? Thank you and please nothing worse than Call Me Maybe!
