I seriously doubt this dog owner has GPS'd their dog. Still vote for stealing it.

Be careful talking about "stealing" or "poisoning" a dog, lest a DCUM crazy get ideas. In reality, most dogs I know (clearly not this one) have loving owners that have either chipped and/or GPS'd their dog (they would find their dog, no matter where it went if it was "stolen"); and the owners I know would ABSOLUTELY pay for poison tests and prosecution. Be aware.

Thank you to all the commenters for their concern. But please do not seek to take action yourselves. Since posting the story, I've gotten a great response from officials within Mayor Gray's office, as well as the DC Council member for my ward, Kenyan McDuffie. The Humane Society of the United States is also now looking into the situation. I sincerely appreciate your intentions, but I am hopeful this situation can be resolved legally.

Seriously though, if I had seen that in my neighborhood, I would probably want to find a way to sneak over, steal the dog and take it to the shelter. No, I haven't seen your dog, I have no idea what happened. Maybe it ran away?

I agree.

How can we know for sure that something is being done?

Why was this moved to the Pets forum? No one will see it there and it needs to have a bigger audience if the pressure can be put on. It's not a question about a pet, it relates to animal cruelty which is something that can concern all, pet owners and non pet owners alike.

I'm the OP and not a pet owner and would never have looked in the Pet forum, but am very interested in taking action in terrible cases like this.

Jeff, please move it back to off-topic.

If no safe/quick way to remove the dog from the home, I'd recommend feeding it a poisoned snack to end the suffering.

Horrible. God bless the author for continuing to try to advocate for this animal.

So sad: http://www.washingtonian.com/washingtonvoices/dc/the-starving-dog-next-door.php

DCUM, let's help get this dog rehoused, fed and in a safer place. How can we put on the pressure?
