Definitely it's Jewish, but I think the name is yuck regardless. There's so many other nice Jewish names. How about Adam or Noah?

It is must definitely a boy's name, not a girl's. Our son is Micah and we are fairly religious (Christian) and it holds family significance in addition to its Biblical meaning. I grew up in an area with a large Jewish population and it was quite common even then. FYI people, even church goers, will mispronounce your child's name when they read it and people will always assume Michael at first when said out loud, so make sure you are not sensitive to that (some parents are, just saying).

OP, I have close friends who thought Judah was a girl name because they had known a Jude and a Judah who were female.

I really like it. It's clearly a boys name. Sounds Jewish but not necessarily.

I love it. It's a Jewish boy's name (Michael). It's been appropriated for girls, but if you love it that's no reason not to use it.

I think of Micah from Emily Owens, M.D. but I love the name. And my first thought would be a male name.

I've only known 2 Micah's---one was a fellow student in junior high and I have no idea what his religion/background was.

The other was another baby in a mom/baby group I was in when my oldest (now age 12) was a baby. This Micah had a German immigrant mother and an American father (Army) and they were both Christian, not Jewish.

I would never think of Micah as a girl name, but it's not really one that I like. I always immediately think of Mica http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mica

Re: Jewish or not. I'm Chrisitian but grew up around a fairly large Jewish population. I had always associated Old Testament names with Jewish families. However, I think Evangelical Christians have usurped those names for the younger generation. Just by virtue of numbers. So now I'd think Jewish or evangelical Christian.

Either way, I like the name.

The only two kids I knew with the name were girls. Both in Baltimore City. But that's been 20 years ago or so.

And I would never assume it's a girl's name. If a letter came into work from a Micah Jones, I'd respond, Dear Mr. Jones.

Love it. If we had a boy we would have used it. I am Jewish and my husband is not, BTW.

I knew two Micahs growing up - one ws Jewish and one was a blonde, California surfer type, so no I don't think it is automatically very Jewish.

What do you think? It's clearly a boy's name, right? Also do you think it sounds very Jewish? We are Jewish so that's not a problem at all, but I'm just trying to get a sense of how this name sounds. Thanks!
