Is there an easy way to do this by public transport? (metro and marc, or bus?)

My husband did this for awhile. If everything was running smoothly, it was about an hour during rush hour -- not great, but doable. However, there were many nights he got home late and his commute took 1 1/2 to 2 hours because of accidents or traffic in downtown Baltimore.

I live in Bethesda and am considering a job in Baltimore. Does anyone do this commute - which route to you take, at what time do you leave home, and how long does it take you by car? (morning/outbound and end-of-day/return commute times). Any tips?
