The expired Gonal-F in itself will likely do you no harm, but it could exacerbate cysts in your ovaries. It is like a $60 shot--why chance it?

And to a different poster, Gonal-F does come in powder form, as well as premixed syringes and pens.

The shot is $60.00, but the treatment is 2k. Thanks for the tidbit about affordability of medical care/fresh drugs and "adding to my family at this time."

"Powder and Solvent for Solution for Injection: Wash hands. It is important that the hands and the items are clean. Assemble everything as needed. Find a clean area and lay out everything (2 alcohol swabs, the 1 mL solvent pre-filled syringe, the vial containinng Gonal-F powder and a syringe for administration).
Preparation of the Injection Solution: There are 1 mL pre-filled syringe containing clear liquid (the solvent) and 1 vial containing Gonal-F (white powder). Remove the protective caps from the vial and from the solvent pre-filled syringe. Pick up the pre-filled syringe of solvent and slowly inject all the solvent (1 mL) into the vial of Gonal-F powder. Remove the syringe used for reconstitution from the vial and dispose of it. Take the syringe for administration, fill it with air to the correct dose. Shake gently the vial of Gonal-F with the solvent. Insert the needle into the vial, turn the vial upside down, inject the air in the vial and draw the prescribed dose of Gonal-F into the syringe for injection.
Removal of Any Air Bubbles: If there are air bubbles in the syringe, hold the syringe with the needle pointing upwards and gently flick the syringe until all the air collects at the top. Push the plunger until the air bubbles are gone.
The reconstituted solution should not be administered if it contains particles or is not clear.
Injecting the Solution: May be injected in the tummy or in the front of the thigh. Wipe the chosen are with an alcohol swab. Firmly pinch the skin together and insert the needle at 45°-90° angle using a dart-like motion. Inject under the skin. Do not inject directly into a vein. Inject the solution by pushing gently on the plunger. Take as much time as you need to inject all the solution. Immediately withdraw the needle and clean the skin with an alcohol swab using a circular motion. "

Taking fertility meds without being monitored is very dangerous. If you cannot afford fresh drugs and proper medical care, perhaps you should rethink adding to your family at this time.

The label says GONAL F 75U. And I remember clearly that is the medicine I was prescribed at the time and bought. I was never prescribed menopur.

I would probably do it to see if it works. Have you been trying naturally for a little while?

No I don't - but I already stocked up on digital ovulation kits.

I have never heard of gonal-f in powder form. Sounds like menupor. Also- I would never take the medication w/out supervision (expired or not.) These are serious drugs!

No, Iam thinking about using it by myself. We are trying for a second child and this medicine is left over from our first IF treatment. We now have a child and before going back to the clinic, I would like to know what can happen if I take this expired medicine. I mean, if it doens't work it is not like I have nothing to lose anyway. However, if there is a chance of having some harmful effects....

I have used barely expired meds to cycle (less than 3 months expired) with good conscious. I am not sure, however, I would use 3 year old meds for cycling - esp if you are doing IVF. Cycling is not cheap and I wouldn't want to wonder "what if" if the cycle failed.

No, I am talking about Gonal F 75U. It comes in individual packages with 1 syringe pre-filled with a clear liquid, 2 needles, and one "vial" with a small white powder round "thing". YOu attach one of the needles on the syringe, mix the liquid with the powder, swap the needles, get the substance out of the vial and inject yourself.
