Once you get to Durham, check out Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh - really great!

Agree with all the PPs who recommended driving straight through. We just did this at Thanksgiving with our 5yo. We left early Thanksgiving morning and drove straight through, getting there in time for the midday meal. Worked out great!

The drive to Durham is about 4 hours. Absolutely no need to stop!

No need to stop, we usually start down around 8 and are in around 12:30 or 1AM. The kids usually sleep in the car. And agree, not much to do besides the Children's Museum (which is great). Mmm...Bojangles...

Agree with PP. It isn't super far to get to Durham. Other than Richmond, you won't be going through much.

The only thing I can think of is Civil War stuff in Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania or the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico. But I'm guessing you want to get farther away from DC on your first day of driving. And not sure if either of these would be something you're interested in.

Besides Richmond, there's really not much of anything on the way. If you time it right, the drive isn't bad from DC. Unless you hit traffic on this end, you should be there in under 5 hours. Once you pass Richmond it's pretty much just pine trees and the occasional Bojangles.

We are driving down to Durham, NC to visit a friend for spring break. Thinking about stopping overnight somewhere along the way. Is there anything interesting to see? Kids are 3 and 5. We've done the children's museum in richmond but otherwise have not really explored that city.
