I'm also highly allergic to cats and dogs - really almost all triggers indoor and out. Our son desperately wanted a pet since he was 3 years old. I've had a few pets growing up, and it was miserable - even with allergy shots. I know your asking about guinea pigs, but I wanted to let you know about our pet. After researching for months, I came across the Siberian cat which produces little to none of the protein that people with allergies are typically allergic to. I was skeptical (and so was my husband), but we decided to take a chance. It was incredible. Absolutely no reaction to her and she burrows under my chin most evenings while watching TV - with her fur by my nose. We've had her almost 3 years now and I wish I had found this breed years ago. I call her a "dog" cat because she acts just like a dog - even fetches soft balls and brings them back to us. She wrestles with my husband and son and has NEVER tried to scratch or bite them. My son (8 now) comes home every day after school and rolls around on the floor with her. This breed is known for being extremely family friendly, like a few of the dog breeds. The only two downsides is that they grow really big - up to 20 pounds (the males sometimes more). Our cat is only about 12 pounds right now, but they grow for 5 years, so we are expecting her to get bigger. She's probably more of a runt of the breed - but we're OK with that. Second, she has a lot of fur - extremely soft fur - all my son's friends love to hold her - but, a lot of it! As long as I brush her a few times a week, it seems to be fine, but if I forget - you can tell. Anyway, just to let you know there are some pets that work for highly allergic people.

He could defn be allergic to Guinean pig. Plus they smell! Get a goldfish.

I think you will be fine if you use certain bedding called care fresh instead of wood based litter.

Most people are allergic to dander and saliva of dogs and cats, not fur. I don't think a guinea pig is going to cause problems.
