I'm not an immigration lawyer, but I have friends who are . . . My understanding is that if you get into it because you want to help people in need, you will find that the clients with the greatest need for your help often have the least ability to pay for it. Most firms that do immigration do a lot of visa work for highly skilled workers. Those lawyers aren't in Immigration Court representing asylees. . . they generally aren't in court at all. It's more paper processing, which my friends have told me is not why they got into Immigration law.

Since a lot of you are lawyers, does anyone have any thoughts on practicing immigration law, particularly in the DC area? What is it like to practice, what are the challenges, etc.?
