This is OP-- thanks all. I texted back and said we weren't interested.

This was quite funny to me-- but I am quite confident that this was indeed about the cat given that neither friend or I are about as far removed from 'the club scene' as possible.

Maybe she sent the text to you by mistake and it was actually meant for someone else?

^^when I take my expensive and well loved cats to the vet, the vet techs are always telling me they "might" be interested. Really? Do you know how much they are worth? Did I ask you? Are you offering me a check? LOL!

Yes, people are ridiculous! Maybe she was trying to help. It is normal to see a picture before rehoming. Just say I love my cat! Sorry you got the wrong idea! -- cat breeder, many happy homes.

Your friend is a bitch! What a nerve. I'd be pissed.

Give your friend the benefit of the doubt that there was a miscommunication such that she thought you were looking to rehome the cat.

And then don't worry about it. Cat probably prefers not being the center of attention all the time. (At least any cat I've ever owned preferred it that way.)

wow yeah your friend crossed a line. She basically said you aren't a good enough pet owner and she found a better home for the cat. That's the way I would take it.

Send a picture of a cat in the shelter. Say they can take that one.

Imagine the conversations DF is having with others to troll for a new home for your cat "this poor cat gets no attention now that there is a pet human in the house ... Aw poor thing". LOL.

My mom's dog is the center of her world because her kids are grown. Bet your friend doesn't have kids and has too much time on her hands. She's crossed the line.

thanks- this made me feel better. Yes- you are correct friend does not have kids and her cats are very much the center of attention.

Simply tell your friend she has the wrong idea and you are not interested in re-homing the cat.

Besides, anyone who requires a picture before considering an animal who needs a home is suspect in my opinion. It's not a beauty contest. Yes, of course you want to meet the animal and get the vibe and looks can be part of that, but to judge based on a picture...that's off.

Post 02/12/2013 21:43     Subject: Not sure what to think-- Friend texted about my cat

So I got a text from a good friend this evening telling me that she had someone who potentially wanted my cat- and asking me to send a picture if we were interested.
I am kind of taken a back-- I don't think I have ever expressed any interest in giving up our cat. I probably have made comments along the lines that our cat doesn't get as much attention now that we have kids. But that isn't the equivalent of no attention- he is snuggled up with me right now, as he does every evening after the kids go to sleep.
But now I am totally filled with self doubt, and wondering if I am not caring for my cat such that my friend would think I wanted to give him up??
