Seriously,there are lots of homes in Silver Spring that will be under350k. I live in 20901, Forest Knolls School district. It is very nice. We are 10 min DTSS (downtown silver spring). It you want a bigger house for the money, you will have look further out.

You'll be able to find something you like between Frederick and Silver Spring itself. It depends on how much of an "urban" life you want and how fussy you are about schools.

PP missed something, because 52 single-family homes have sold in 20912 this year and last year for less than $350K, twice as many as did in 20910. OP - also check out Kensington (20895) there are some options there as well.

Yes, I agree that finding a home in Takoma Park for 350,000 seems like a stretch. It seems like taking the MARC train from Boyds, Germantown (an hour) or Gaithersburg (45 minutes) might be options. It's a straight shot to Silver Spring and eliminates the horrible commute of sitting in a car. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far.

You can try 20912, but you won't find much in that price range. Trust me, we looked for nine months--and could go above $350K. At that price, you could buy... I don't know, a historic tree stump, maybe.

Definitely check on the Real Estate forum, too. I did a quick Redfin search and there are many options that fit your criteria! You can also go not too far out and get something larger. You'll get more for your money in 20904 or 20905, but that's a longer commute for your husband. Still should be well under an hour, though. You shouldn't need to go up to Mt. Airy or Clarksburg to find something you like. It's lovely in those places, but pretty far out, too.

Why on earth wouldn't you move to Maryland? Look around Silver Spring, Wheaton, that area, or further out like Mt. Airy, Clarksburg. You should be able to find something totally affordable a little bit further out in Maryland. Moving further out in Virginia makes absolutely no sense whatsoever if your husband is working in Silver Spring.

We are willing to live in a modest home, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom although if we could afford something larger we would prefer to do it. My husband works on Georgia Ave in the "downtown area" of Silver Spring (20910). What zipcodes would you recommend searching under?

Where in Silver Spring will your husband work? How big does your house need to be? SS is quite large, and you could most likely find something in your price range in SS proper (if there is such a thing) or close by.

I'm planning to stay at home after baby #2 comes in May. My husband works in Silver Spring. We have lived in Falls Church for about 5 years. We are looking for a decent commute for him (Around an hour maximum by train if possible but he will drive if he has to). Looking for homes in the $330,00 to $350,000 max range. I only know of this being possible in the Woodbridge and Manassas areas and he could commute by VRE. What are the options in Maryland?
