48 for the OP, not me. 20 kids. 15 will bring 1 parent. That's 15 more. 5 will bring 2 parents. That's 10 more. 45 people total.

OP here. I like cupcakes more than my kids. They don't like frosting. I usually take one if one is offered to me. At some parties, it is obvious that there are none for the parents. I want to be able to offer but not take 20 cupcakes home.

We expect about 20 kids. My son is turning 2. I expect that about 75% of the attendees will have 1 parent and then 25% will have 2 parents.
At my older son's 3rd bday party last year, I ordered cupcakes for all the kids and then a sheet cake for the adults. We literally did not touch the cake. We also had many cupcakes left. I want to say I bought 10 extra cupcakes. I think 2 parents took a cupcake and that is it.
Want to avoid ordering too much again.
