I attended in the 90's. It was ok and it was a nice insular environment but after the fact even my parents agreed with me that my neighbors who attended a Fairfax County public high school received a superior education. So I wouldn't send my child unless your child specifically wants a small high school or you are a serious practicing Catholic.

Parochial is still private it just isn't independent. You seem a little confused.

PS It has been around since the early 80s and was opened at that time to serve Catholics located further west in the Arlington Diocese than was practical to get to O'Connell. It is located in the old Fairfax HS bldg. off of Route 123 as it goes thru the center of Fairfax. Near the Hyundai dealership. I like the old brick look of the campus. I think it is staffed by the Salesian order, but I could be wrong about that.

I grew up in this area and am slightly familiar with it. As a Catholic who went to parochial school, some of my fellow classmates went on to PVI. I'd put it on the same level as O'Connell, b/c the two are similar: diocesan, co-ed schools. So, I think you'd have kids at almost all ends of the spectrum. One thing I like about PVI is what I think they call their Options Program (or somethign similarly named). It is a program for students with Down Syndrome and other mental challenges and I believe they share other non-academic activiites with the neurotypical students. I really like this mission and I think it is very kind and concordant with the Catholic character.

Do they not publish a profile or something that shows the college matriculations for the previous year? That seems unusual. I'd ask the school for that information.

surely that is not what college admissions people think of when they see a Paul VI application.
We're thinking of sending DC there as well.
I'd like at their college acceptances and see where their grads have gone recently.
The only other private that is close-by is Flint Hill, and I've heard mixed things about it - for more than double the price.

It is not known for its academics.

I had a bf there and totally remember this! But didn't know it was "known."

What?! I've heard of the school and known about it for years and never heard that. It may well be true, but to say it's most remembered for that is ridiculous.

My son is a very strong student, and we are considering Paul VI. I know it doesn't have the greatest facilities, nor the academic reputation of several other private schools.
