Startup experience here too. Was laid off due to business failure.

Never again.

Start ups are stressful. They may say it's family friendly now, but I would be leery of that staying so. And when working from home, some kind of child care is still necessary if you don't want to be trying to cram work in every nap time and bed time, that's miserable.

I would stay put too. If you're learning, getting your resume back together and not miserable then I would stick it out for another year or so. If the startup implodes and you have to start all over again I wouldn't want to have to explain why I jumped ship after just a year when a firm took a chance on me.

Experience with two start-ups and known many others who have gone that route- BDDT - never again. Stay put IMO.

Honestly, I'd stick it out where you are. In a year or so you'll either be doing something more interesting at your current job or at least have the experience to move on to something else. The start up just seems too risky.

I started a new job several months ago after being a SAHM for a few years. I chose this job (in a new but slightly related field to my old one) because of the potential career growth and because it is at a family-friendly place. The job is full-time and the pay is not great. I like it but don't love it and have been saddled with a lot of admin duties because I am the low man on the totem pole. And I really dislike these duites but figure I'll grow out of them in about 1.5 years. The people are nice and I am learning a lot of new skills that I think I could use to find more jobs with in the future.

I have an opportunity to join a start up doing something completely different at which I may or not be good at but I think I will enjoy trying. It sounds fun, interesting and is very flexible hours-wise and I would be working from home. The money is even worse than at my current job but I wouldn't have to pay for aftercare for my kids, which would make it a bit better. The company does have potential to grow or it could crash and burn in a year leaving me without a job and a really wacky resume from having switched fields so often in such a short time. I fear that it would be hard to get back into the field I am currently in, at least not without starting from the bottom, again!

Any thoughts or advice?
