Yep, I've had that happen before. A gentle scrubbing with steel wool or a scrubby pad should take the rust off. When I wash my cookie cutters, I dry by hand then lay them on a cookie sheet and warm them in the oven. That way, they're fully dry before I put them away.

You can't put them in the dishwasher or - as you discovered - they will rust because the water is just sitting on them. You need to hand wash them and dry them straightaway.

I just bought a handful of cookie cutters from sur la table that I use to cut sandwixh shapes etc. I put them in the dishwasher and they have rusted. I've used them maybe twice. Is this normal? Perhaps I should hand wash them?
