If wait listed in HS magnet, have your student send a letter to HS magnet counselor stating why s/he is a good candidate for the X program . . . , highly motivated . . . you know the drill. Counselors has piles of wait list, NOT in sequence of score. Give him/her a reason to pull out your DC's file before others.

I know some kids who op for their neighborhood school and turn down both magnet offers.

All enterprises make matriculation projections based on historical yield.

I do not know the exact extra number, but they invite more than 50 students to each program knowing that some of the kids who are invited to multiple programs will accept only one. They use historical data to determine the extra.

However generally kids who are invited into both accept the the Math program and another statitics is that the program knows the statistics and invite more kids than there are spots avilable. So, even if all 20 kids reject Math program to join humanities (which is highly unlikely) still there might not be even one called from the waitpool. 2 of my kids have been though the program and I know how it works.

We went to the orientation meeting last night. Students who got in both programs are more than 20. So, at least 20 spots will open up, I think. Good luck!
