Huh. It's amazing then that we all somehow learned to count to 100 without having had the treat of 100th Day in our classes when we were in K. Whatever did we do back then in those olden days?

Well, in my school, we had candy-fueled bacchanals to celebrate Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and perhaps other holidays as well. Whereas my son gets excited when they give him pita chips. Maybe the 100th Day is just a little something to console kids for their bland lives.

Fun day, and good strategy for introduction to the decimal system. Each school day counts as 1. In many classes, you collect straws to represent the school days. Every 10 days you make of bundle of straws w/ a rubber band. When you have 10 bundles, then you have 100 days, and it is PARTY TIME!

Bah Humhug.

I'm not sure what giant treat you think is being given to them. For the 100th day of school, but kids talked about the 100th day, and had a piece of paper where they had to draw 100 of something (circles, hearts, squares, etc). Counted to 100 as a class. Grouped 100 items into groups of 10, etc. I don't see this as some sort of extreme excessive treat that is spoiling kids.

My DD's class learned to count to 100 in jr-K. Didn't know this was covered again in K. Interesting.

Yeah, my kids all learned in preschool, but they are covering it in kindergarten too.

I had never heard of it, but thought it was a fun idea. Some of you are fuddydud party poopers!

Never heard of it, but my son's kindergarten does track the days all year.

Seriously. I was wondering this too. I have seen FB friends' pics of their kids posing for 100th Day and thought, "What the. . .??"

It's a fun day that teaches math and the concept of time, days, calendar, etc.

Primarily for the younger grades K-2.

I think it's about reinforcing counting skills. I'm 38 and we never did this growing up.

We never had this when I was in school and I'm only in my 30s. How did 100th Day of School become this big celebration? Why do schools do this?
