2012-13 Benchmark Score for the 2nd Grade Screening Pool
The 2012-13 benchmark score for the 2nd grade screening pool is 132 on the First Grade NNAT or 95th percentile on the Second Grade Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) VQN score.

In the CogAT score sheet, there are 4 scores: Verbal, Quantative, Nonvel, and VQN. Only if the VQN is >= 95 will make your DC in the pool. (or NNAT >= 132)

Ugh this is so confusing, not sure why . So if my child got a Verbal percentile rank of 98% - does that mean he should be in the pool?

No, not a van of 95, just a 95 on any 1 of 3 subtests.

That is they way it was 2 years ago. This year you need a 95 vqn.

Please please do not shoot me! I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a hundred times over, but I've searched and cannot find!
We have been assuming that our 2nd grader is NOT in the AAP Level IV screening pool for multiple reasons, the most obvious of which is that we didn't receive a letter in January telling us that our child is in the pool. We looked at the CogAT scores received last week and our child scored in the 98th percentile on one of the sub tests. I was not sharing test scores, but a parent told me that if a child scores in the 98th or 99th percentile in any of the sub tests, then this automatically means he/she is part of the pool. This doesn't really make any sense to me, so I've emailed our school's AAP resource to clarify. In the meantime, does anyone have a quick answer to this? For what it's worth, we did not get actual scores in our letter, just percentiles.
