We pay $2500 a month for full-day (6 hour) preschool plus 5 hours of aftercare for a 4yo and 1.5yo (they have a toddler room too). That's after a pretty generous financial aid package from the school.

We looked into various daycare options, and seriously considered getting an au pair, which would have been less than a nanny but still about the same as what we are currently paying. In-home daycare would have been less expensive, but we felt that the older child needed more of a preschool setting and had trouble finding a spot for the younger one at a place we felt good about (not to mention the difficulty of dealing with two different drop offs).

We pay $42,000 per year for a 2 year old and an infant at daycare in NW DC. The daycare provides food. Next year will be a little cheaper since the older child will move to a preschool.

Colesville Child Center in Silver Spring. I believe they have two other centers around the county - Sherwood and Mary Hart. I don't know the full names of them, but I think Mary Hart is in Rockville.

We pay 1460/month for a 17 month old and 4 month old. It's a home daycare in MD. Older DD has been there in some capacity since she was 9 months and loves them. It's not very large. Eight kids between 4 months and 2.75 years and three providers.

We are very lucky to have this rate. Before a good friend referred me to them(that's the only way they take new kids) we were looking at 1500 per child.

We pay close to $40,000 for two in VA.

We'll be paying $2800/mo for FT infant and 3 year old in a NW DC center. A nanny would cost more, need days off, and require more record keeping than I want to deal with.

Sounds about right to me. In NW DC, I will be paying around $3200 for full time care for an infant and a 3 year old.

Dont forget that the cost goes down as the child gets older. I think most centers are slightly higher than your quoted prices for infant care to start. We pay about $37,000/year for 2 kids under 5, but the cost of a legal nanny plus part time preschool would be several thousand more.

This is about what we pay.

How much are you paying for two children under 5 years of age for in-home day care, day care, and/or preschool? I was under the impression that most in-home day care providers charge $250/week in DC and day care centers run from $1500-$1800/month in D.C. per child (depending upon their age). My husband and I were evaluating sending our kids to daycare and he was shocked that the amount could cost $3000-$3600/month for two kids under 5. Does this sound right? Does anyone know if the daycare costs quoted above is identical to how much one pays for a nanny?
