There is no reason this will not work. But you might want to double the batter to make sure that you have enough to fill the pan. Easier way to do this is to make a regular pan of brownies and use a knife to sculpt a football, or a number of small footballs.

I bought a cute cake mold in the shape of a football thinking that I would bake a chocolate cake and decorate that to look like a football for our super bowl party tomorrow. Now, i'm thinking of making brownies but trying to bake them in the football-shaped cake mold. Any experienced bakers out there have any tips for me? The cooking time obviously will be different, but is there some obvious reason why this won't work? I'm thinking of doing brownies because it will be firmer and thus easier to eat standing up, and this will be a largely buffet party. Thanks!
